Aldeia Bica do Covão is located on a peninsula stretching out into the Atlantic just 35 Km south of Lisbon in the traditional Portuguese village town of Alfarim/Meco – a destination of choice by local Lisbon holiday makers avoiding the crowds of the Algarve. Located within 8 Km from Arrábida National Park, it is only 1000 meters to nearest beach, 200 meters to Lagoon of Albufeira, and Lisbon airport is 30 minutes by car. The village of Alfarim/Meco includes several excellent restaurants, bars, discotheques, convenience stores, butchers, bakeries and fish stands all within walking distance. Public bus service is available right from the complex gate to some local beaches and larger towns in the area. The peninsula includes access to a variety of beaches and beach activities. Beach types range from long sandy dunes with roaring ocean waves to secluded patches of sand with still, peaceful waters, from family oriented settings to nudist enclaves.
The complex has a secure entrance with private parking and a barbecue area. It is set in a newly built (2003) private condominium complex near the numerous local beaches. There are 7 properties for rent at the Aldeia Bica do Covão ranging between 1/2 bedrooms.

Sofa bed that converts to double bed available depending on the unit.  Sleeps 4 to 6.
Rates are for self-catering accommodation only and include linens, kitchen ware, electricity, gas and, depending on the unit, wood for the fireplace.

Local Area Details

The lagoon of Albufeira is located about 30 Km south of Lisbon, on the coastal area. The lagoon is shore-normal, elongated and consistes of a series of interconnected elliptical cells. Local authorities artificially breach the barrier every Easter, allowing a tidal inlet to develop that temporarily allows water exchange with the ocean. Its permanent flooded area is small (circa 1.3 Km2) but it is the deepest Portuguese coastal lagoon, depths exceeding 15 m.
Recreational activities occur on the beach and seashore resorts on the seaward side of the lagoon. Most visitors to the area originate from nearby urban areas such as Lisboa and Setúbal, although international visitors are also common. Close the strong sea-waves, the calm Albufeira Lagoon has the ideal characteristics of several water sports, mainly: windsurf, sailing, canoeing and fishing.
The lagoon is very important as a traditional source of fish and shellfish to nearby areas and there is a major social event associated with the opening of the lagoon to the sea in easter week each year. Traditional agriculture occurs in small, irrigated plots around the margins of the lagoon.
Surrounded by extremely beautiful geological foundations, which include other beaches, this peaceful lagoon also boasts wonderful fauna and flora. It is also integrated in the Fossil Hillside of Caparica Coast.
